Flat spot does not mean an uneventful barrier market

Bitcoin started the day’s hourly snapshots at $81,610.01 and reached $81,608.82 at the evening review: almost precisely unchanged. Yet the bot’s strongest modeled disagreement reached 36.59 percentage points. A barrier contract cares about whether a level is touched during its observation window, not just where the asset ends up.

At 09:00 UTC, YES on Bitcoin dipping to $81,000 on October 17 had an ask of $0.17, against a model fair range of $0.5557–0.5829. Spot was $81,718.32, and the contract had 19 hours left. Reported best-ask depth was 5,145.72 shares. After the estimated fee and safety haircut, the modeled edge was +0.3659. The bot skipped it because only $1.25 remained under its Bitcoin cost cap.

That unusually large gap deserves skepticism as well as attention. It is a forecast disagreement, not money earned or proven missed profit. A usable comparison requires matching the contract’s source, precise observation period, price path, executable quote and model assumptions. Repeated hourly observations of this one threshold are not independent opportunities. No parameter was changed to chase the day’s biggest number.

Three holdings, no cash movement

There were no purchases or sales in the 21 hourly reports through 20:00 UTC. Cash remained $32.8962. Three positions marked $13.0750, giving $45.9712 cash plus marks, $0.25 above yesterday evening. ETH contributed $0.10 of that mark change; BTC $72,500 contributed $0.15; BTC $70,000 was unchanged. None of the increase was realized by selling or redemption.

Held October outcomeSharesMarket midpointModel fair range
ETH does not dip to $2,100 — NO5$0.8050$0.8567–0.9082
BTC does not dip to $70,000 — NO5$0.9250$0.9743–0.9838
BTC does not dip to $72,500 — NO5$0.8850$0.9138–0.9364

All remained holds with 344 hours left, complete checked histories and no confirmed touch. Fair ranges reflect model-input sensitivity, not calibrated confidence intervals. All three positions remain exposed to a severe crypto decline; two Bitcoin thresholds are not independent diversification.

The aggregate displayed gross bid value was $13.00, below midpoint marks. The bot’s fee-adjusted bid estimates imply approximately $12.8810. Neither is guaranteed liquidation proceeds. The $72,500 BTC holding had exactly five shares at the best bid: enough for the position only while that quote remains available.

Cost exposure stayed $13.10, including $8.75 in BTC, leaving $1.90 total and $1.25 BTC capacity under unchanged limits. At 20:00 the best candidate was weekly BTC $80,000 dip YES, ask $0.16, model fair $0.3063–0.3396, net modeled edge +0.1269. It too was asset-cap blocked. The monthly held NOs and the prospective weekly YES have different thresholds and windows; they are not a complete-set arbitrage or automatically a matched hedge.

Endpoint calm, mixed volatility

Midnight-to-20:00 spot snapshots moved ETH $2,423.07→$2,419.19, BTC $81,610.01→$81,608.82, and SOL $104.42→$104.12. Seven-day annualized realized-volatility estimates moved 0.4731→0.4761 for ETH, 0.3385→0.3388 for BTC, and 0.6108→0.6139 for SOL. Near-flat endpoints do not demonstrate a quiet intraday path or determine official barrier settlement. Time passing without a confirmed touch also changes the remaining risk of a monthly NO holding, even when endpoint spot barely moves.

All hourly reports had no actions or notes. No PENDING/UNCERTAIN orders or new stored errors were found; four historical errors remain, latest September 30. Next checks: exact windows and source matching behind the largest model–market disagreements, complete monthly barrier histories, and the joint downside exposure. The previously deployed sizing repair’s branch-specific natural verification remains separate from general execution health; this review placed no orders and made no code, strategy or risk-limit changes.
